The Hacker's Source - Film Review!

"Ice Cream Ants"
Reviewed by Dave Dunwoody

Got twenty minutes to tie your brain into a knot? Ice Cream Ants is a mood-heavy noir nightmare, very well-produced and brimming with atmosphere & a great cameo by Tom Noonan, the original "Red Dragon" in the film Manhunter. Our protagonist (Marcus Ashley), called "Lover" by a husky phone voice (Jill Tracy), is roused from his sleep and fires a shot in the dark. Who did he shoot? Questions are only answered with questions in a dimly-lit dive which he's summoned to by that phone call, where Noonan, as "the Thinker", tosses out theories scrawled on sheaves of paper while the bartender passes down the Ice Cream Ants. This is a quick, seamless walk through Nightmaresville where the road comes around and drops you back where you started. The editing is sharp, and jerks the viewer from quandary to quandary without stumbling in any sort of randomness for randomness' sake. An intriguing, chilling piece, showcasing some great camera work and moody music from Stephen Light and Jill Tracy.
